About Us
The Reach Indoor Climbing Wall, located right on the Thames between the Thames Barrier and the Woolwich Ferry, opened it's doors in January 2010. The planning and preparation behind this spacious venue has been years in the making and with work constantly ongoing, we are aiming to be one of the most impressive large-scale walls in London.
With 1200 square metres of floor area and 11 metres height, there is space to build a great variety of climbs. Crispin Waddy of Living Stone has designed some unique climbing areas for us, including a massive centrepiece which is a triple buttress with movable volumes.
For bouldering there is over 500 sq metres wall area, which will double in size in the next building phase. Our huge free-standing 4 metre high boulder was newly opened in October 2011 on the main floor near the traverse wall.
In January 2010 The Reach had over 70 roped lines, with around 25 lead climbs. By 2012 this will have increased to 150 lines. We will also be setting 11 metre lead climbs on the overhanging sections of the buttresses.
The Reach caters to all levels, from beginners through to experienced climbers, providing courses and private tuition across the full range of abilities. We also have a keen focus on youth climbing and school groups, climbing with disabilities, also disadvantaged groups and corporate groups.
Come in and see the friendly, relaxed atmosphere for yourself, chat to the staff and have a drink in the mezzanine cafe. We look forward to seeing you at The Reach!
