If you are interested in becoming a freelance instructor at The Reach, please speak with our staff. It's very rewarding and a great way to pass on your knowledge and experience to new and developing climbers. |

You will need to attain the necessary qualification — 'Climbing Wall Instructor' from Mountain Training — and you will also need an enhanced DBS check (which we provide for you at cost). You will then receive additional in-house training before you start instructing for us. |
Instruction in the use of equipment or climbing techniques will only be provided where it has been booked and paid for in advance.

*Under 14s cannot enter The Reach except under the supervision of an adult member.

For roped climbing registration, you must be able (without assistance) to tie-in with a suitable climbing knot, fit your harness and be able safely to belay a climber:
Alternatively, you can complete the bouldering only form after you have watched our bouldering safety video.
An adult who has registered at the centre and proved competency, may supervise up to two guest climbers, taking full responsibility for the safety of those people.

The supervising adult member must remain on the ground, always within sight and within a few metres of their guest(s), paying close attention to them at all times. |

The supervising member cannot climb — unless you have a second experienced climber who also has the appropriate forms to share the supervision. |

|
Guest climbers must not belay, unless backed up by their supervising member. |
|
|
All under 18s (except registered junior members), whether climbing or not, must be closely supervised at all times (throughout the premises) by a registered adult member. |
|
|
Bouldering-only members must have climbed at The Reach 3 times before they can supervise guests. |
|
|
Groups of three or more novices must only be supervised by an instructor holding the relevant Mountain Training qualification and insurance. |
|
If your child is an experienced climber aged 14+:They may be eligible to climb without supervision after passing a prebooked assessment to demonstrate they meet the required standards. |
Adult: £15 (£12 off-peak — Mon-Fri, before 4pm)

There is no entry fee for a supervising member, since they cannot leave the floor.

If you are bringing 2 guests, you need to complete a form for each of them.
Foundation coaching: drop-in sessions to continue your journey after completing the rope skills course.
Development coaching: choose your development coach to help you meet your own goals at any stage of your climber's journey.
You can also learn (or refresh) how to top-rope climb and belay — and then advance your roped climbing skills on our dedicated lead training course.
ICAS is a volunteer run community. They are not instructors, however they will check all new members know how to belay safely before allowing new members to climb within the community.
